Looking at used Ford F-350 high miles

Where do you figure 6-9,000 hours? My truck has 142,000 miles and 3300 hours. 6 would-be at the high end of a 200k truck, 9 would only apply to a beaten oil field rig.

I would still own my F250 if I didn't need a bigger truck. The only reason I went to the Ram 5500 over the Ford F550 was the amount of truck I could get with the same amount of money.

I do feel the 6.0 PSD is more sensitive how it is used and maintained - I guess I didn't hurt its feelings.

That's all fine and good but a lot of times it don't come down to the cost to fix it. It comes down to sitting on the side of a busy highway with RV in tow with family in the truck 200 miles from home looking for a shop that can get you in and actually have parts sitting on the shelf to fix it.

Yes all brand trucks especially with high miles can go down but Vegas odds have the 6.0 Powerstroke at the best percentage of going down hard and long.

On a side note to my first post at the beginning of this thread, my BIL came into work this morning and said his 6.0 that I was talking about is sitting on the side of the road a mile from his house. Died on him on the off ramp last night on his way home.he got a whole 5,000 miles out of it between trips to the 6.0 shop.;)

Exactly. The 6.0 is like no other modern day diesel. It's reputation is far from stellar.
Pretending it's just another used vehicle at a bargain price is foolish.
For those that have them good luck. For those looking, stay away there are better options.
What's ironic is people are still buying these things because they believe they are a bargain when cost of ownership is the reason most of these truck end up on the used market.

I have a 6.0L with 350k kms/217000 miles on it right now. Now I'm not going to say she has never been worked on because ANY diesel truck with this much mileage is more than likely been into some parts just from wear and tear plus close to 10 years of use.

With all that being said my truck is as strong as the day I brought it home still pulling hard and bring decent mileage.

I will say though that I turn my own wrenches on her, she has never seen a dealer except for emissions tests. If you take any of these diesels to a shop, any of them, with issues be prepared! Make sure your CC has some room on it or you have a big roll of cash in your pocket because they ARE going to come for it.

Knowing what I know about my truck, I'd buy it again in a heart beat. It's been no worse for maintenance and parts than any other truck I've owned and in some categories it's been even better.

I too just bought a 2006 F350 6.0 with 224,000 miles. The purchase price was well under what I could get a GM diesel or gas model. I had the truck "Bulletproofed" and some other minor service work done. The truck is strong and I am confident it should last me a long time. According to the mechanic who did my work, the life of a diesel is scheduled maintenance, oil changes at 5,000 miles, regular filter changes, etc. Any used vehicle you buy can have problems sooner or later. Run as far away from a Sicko as you can! They are nothing but pure junk. Unmodified, they still lift the heads. I bled blue until my 07 6.0, now I'll probably never own another one. If you want a Ford, get the V10, mileage sucks, but the engine is truly bulletproof.

We have an '04 and I like it. Stock 6.0, not juiced. Properly maintained. Tows our 5th wheel toy Hauler no problem.

Stop bagging on my truck, go pound sand you arm chair know it alls.

I would take a 10 year old 7.3 in a heart beat. I have a 2000 making it way over 10 yrs old. It has 220,000 on it. I will change all those little things before I spend 70k on a new one and yes a few things have worn out. Replace all the leather inside $1300 both front hubs at $200 each.
