I wish I had put in air bags that had internal protection designed in so there was no minimum pressure required. I've yet to need them as an aid and keeping minimum pressure in them is just another thing to check. On board air with gauge certainly would help.
If you're not carrying any real payload, you'd be hard pressed to bottom out your 1 ton and damage the airbags. It's possible but you'd have to jump it like the Dukes of Hazard!
I don't really worry if there's air in them when I'm not using them. Just have to make sure you don't load the truck down without at least minimum air in it.
That may be true. I have had two sets of airbags, and there is no way I want to run around not knowing what amount of air is in them.
Air gauge in truck just takes a glance to know whats in them . The automatic maintains whatever pressure is set. Mine cycles every time its started , just for a second or two, its designed that way, if there was a bad leak it would just keep running, and I would know it.
Unless its simply a money thing, then it makes no sense to not have onboard air, then there is always the chance of ruining the airbags not knowing whats going on .
IMO bite the bullet or whatever, and get onboard air. Been both ways, and just can't see messing around with bicycle pumps ,portable air, whatever.
