Looking for reassurance

Ok, I have just purchased the 2015 StarCraft Travel Star 187TB. I have a 2015 Toyota Tacoma 6 cylinder with tow package and tow rate of 6500 max. We are having a Prodigy P2 Brake control installed along with Equalizer WD hitch (10,000lb) Here are the trailer specs as on StarCraft site:

Unloaded Vehicle Weight (lbs) 3,615

Dry Hitch Weight (lbs) 445

Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (lbs) 4,475

Cargo Carrying Capacity (lbs) 860

If I understood the posts I have researched on here (many late nights!) I think we are ok. Just looking for someone to tell me we will be fine. I hope! Thanks in advance. Moving up from pup.
  • I'm towing a Jayco X17C with my 4.0L V6 Frontier. UVW is about 3,000#; TW is about 475#; GVWR is 3,500#. TT is single-axle. While I'm not setting any speed records, my combo does well. I can maintain 60-65 MPH; at times RPMs are 3,500 or so going up a grade. I'm using the E2 hitch (Equalizer's cheaper cousin) and don't have any problems with sway.

I think you'll be OK. You'll need to be careful about how much you put in the bed of the truck or you might exceed the GVWR of the truck. You have a few hundred more pounds of CCC on your trailer than I do. We pack light and don't carry water, so we've not had any problems.

    Good luck & enjoy!

We tow with a 6 cyl Tacoma - our trailer is a lot lighter, though, at about 2800 lbs. No problems, but you do know it's back there. At worst, you are 2000 lbs under the maximum tow rating for the Tacoma, so you should be all set. There is a very good post at TacomaWorld.com - the Tacoma Towing Bible. You should take the time to read it. One thing I learned there was not to tow in "D" - no overdrive. Use "4" instead. I also ended up purchasing an Ultragauge MX to keep an eye on miles/gallon, miles to empty, and transmission temperature. This is a great thing to have. www.Ultra-gauge.com
