looking for tongue weight KZ Coyote 23 clt

I've got a 2003 KZ Coyote 23 CLT (bunk popouts in front and on both sides, no slideouts), and I need to know its tongue weight (looking at purchasing a smaller tow vehicle). The spec sticker on the outside of the trailer has fallen off, so all I know is its unloaded weight which is 3306 (from a sticker inside the trailer). Its not listed in the trailer manual. Anyone here have this trailer and know its tongue weight? Thanks
  • Well while going thru some old paper work today I found the KZ catalog, and my unit is listed as a CT, although the sticker in the trailer (and registration) says CLT, who knows. Anyway, in the catalog it listed the dry tongue weight as 600 lbs. I've passed on the Tacoma and have picked up a 2011 Ram 1500 SLT Big Horn which should tow it with ease.
  • Thanks for the help Roy, and I'm not convinced that I've got a CT... I've now expanded my search for a new tow vehicle to a full size pickup, at least there I know I won't have a problem with tongue weight, etc.

MadFinn - I have seen this before on searching for things... Usually I find a NADAguides for the model numbers but that is coming up empty here as well...

The NADAGUIDEs list all kinds of data for the 23CT model...

Not disputing your documents at all...

AT least I got to look at some more smaller trailers which I prefer over the big ole guys...

Good luck on finding some more info.... Sooner or later someone with your CLT model number will check aboard haha...

  • Hey Roy B, the sticker inside my unit says 23 CLT, but I can't find a CLT anywhere online, but mine does look exactly like the CT shown in your picture. My sticker says 3306 lbs unloaded vehicle weight, but looking at similar units online, that 3303 seems a little low.... And my reason for looking for this info is I'm currently towing with a Suburban, but thinking of replacing that with a Toyota Tacoma, which has a max tongue weight of 650.... Some say tongue weight is about 10% the trailer weight, but I'd rather know for sure...

These small lightweight SHERLINE Hydraulic jacks are popular among RV'ers...

Here is sales listing from google for a COYOTE 23CR which should be close to your model for tongue weight..

  • What someone ELSES trailer tongue weighs will have nothing to do with what YOURS weighs. No two people will load it the same. Head for a CAT scale and weigh it is your only answer other than using the bathroom scales or special scales to weigh your tongue. Here is how you can use you bathroom scales for the job.

    Good luck / Skip
  • Likely around 5000# fully loaded. If so you want tongue weight between 650# and 750#.

why don't you weigh it yourself?:h that would be more accurate than someone quoting a brochure "dry" weight.
you can use a regular bathroom scale to do it.

i've actually never seen any other owner of this model, other than you, on any hybrid forum. so you might have a long wait for a response.
