How often do you ever read about bullet proofing a Dmax or Cummins?
Bulletproofing a Cummins 5.9? Never heard of it.
Bulletproofing the terrible 48RE transmission behind it, on the other hand... Oh, and let's not forget the "death wobble" coming from the poorly engineered front end.
All trucks from all brands have problems of their own. Someday, I hope to be one of those folks who gets to pick a truck based on what I like and what I want instead of what I need and what I can afford.
The 48RE was a turd, not a weak turd, just not enough gears for a low revving engine like the Cummins. You're correct, it is not as nice as the 5r...whatever or the 5/6 speed Alli that the competition had at the time, but it wasn't a time bomb behind stock or nearly stock power.
That said, if that was my only option for a 07 Ram, I would still have my Duramax.
And FWiW death wobble isn't just a dodge thing by any stretch. If it was I wouldn't have had DW in my 2000 F350 or 2008 F350. No soild axle truck is immune to it if parts wear out.
140kmi and counting on all bone stock never been touched front end in my Dodge. Maybe I'm just lucky?
