Highest point you can drive in Australia is about 7000 feet - so there isn't going to be any problems with clogged particulate filters and engine shutdowns.
South America you can easily get to 16,500 feet without going off-road, or even off-highway and there have been reports of people having some very expensive problems with Euro 6 engines.
My Iveco was 1994 model so no electronics and no auto-shutdown stuff - just gradual reduction in power and gradual increase in smoke out the exhaust.

After that, it finished the trip to Korea and then across to California and down to the bottom and all around for four (?) years more. Doubt whether the new Ivecos would fare so well.
