South America you can easily get to 16,500 feet without going off-road, or even off-highway and there have been reports of people having some very expensive problems with Euro 6 engines.
Late model US Pickup Diesels HAVE a lot of problems in this regard. A Very well known Australian Adventurer who I have since spoken too was not very impressed with all the troubles he had with Pickup base of his Expedition Motorhome. He also was not impressed with the durability and build quality of the Motorhome itself. Not a happy camper at all.

Why would you want one of those fancy expedition vehicles costing half a million dollars when you have the perfect platform right here in the USA. Cheap, plentiful, and all it takes is a bit of flair and you can end up with a truly unique vehicle. Seen in Moab.
That would be a nightmare on the narrow mountain roads in South America and elsewhere. Narrow track and not so bulky.
