The little windows look like the owner are a little paranoid, more like a jail cell
They are designed for Global travel...not everywhere is as safe as the USA
You are right, a lot of places are much safer,
I read a ride report from an Indian guy that rode from Chicago to Alaska, then to the tip of south America, then through Africa on his way to India. While in Africa he traveled with a small group for a bit, him on his Suzuki DR 650, 2 of those huge and expensive euro monsters, and 1 couple in a VW syncro 4x4 van. He said for 4 wheels the van was the way to go attracted a lot less attention.
