LP gas alarm

Has anyone had their LP alarm malfunction? We purchased a used 2011 Jayco and have had it go off in the night. I purchased a leak detector from camping world today and checked around all the lines and appliances. The few times it has gone off is in the middle of the night when we are not using any gas. Thanks for the feedback.

  • We replaced ours last year in our 2011. No problems with it going off now.
  • I read a story once where a couple had trouble with their alarm and it turned out to be the dog passing gas.
  • Mine went off when the humidity in the trailer rose very quickly. The trailer was hooked up at home to city water and electric. The system was filled with water, the water heater was full and lit. I had shut off the water going to the trailer. It was off for about 3 days. While inside the trailer I turned on the cold water faucet at the kitchen sink. Very hot water came out until the pressure bled off. I went outside, turned off the water heater, turned the water to the trailer back on then opened the hot water faucet to let the very hot water out of the tank. The humidity in the trailer went up quickly since it was cool inside when I ran all the hot water out of the tank. The propane detector went off several times with me hitting the alarm silence button a few times until the humidity dropped off.
  • Other gases, such as dog or cat gases will set them off, also.
  • Like others have said, they have a life span that is about 5 years. A low house or alarm battery can also activate the alarm, as can cleaning fluids and other gases.
  • We changed out LP alarm, dealer checked for leaks.
there was no Pattern for when our sleep would be interrupted always at night.

Then over year later, our converter went out. there had been a Voltage drop the whole time.. that was 4 years ago

    Good luck Camper
  • Check the expiration date on the detector. They do have replace after ____ dates on them.
