Machine waxing on aluminum TT?

Hi all,

This weekend I "waxed" my TT for the first time. I think my arms may just live...but only barely! I have an aluminum sided TT, and thus didn't use my random orbital buffer to apply the product like I would with my car. I figured the buffer would have a hard time getting into all of the "grooves". I used liquid NuFinish and it is easy enough to apply and remove, but the sheer amount of square footage meant it took me 4+ hours to do the whole rig and my arms were dying by the end.

Has anyone successfully used a machine polisher or random orbital buffer on an aluminum sided trailer?

  • I use an extension handle with a large sponge on the end to apply the wax. The sponge is big enought that it can conform to the contours in the siding. Then to buff I lay a towel over a clean sponge on the same extension handle. Again, the sponge is big enough to conform to the contours in the siding. Work basically one siding panel at a time left to right, right to left. Its still a pain, but much better than doing it all strictly by hand.
  • I use a Porter Cable dual-action polisher with Mother's carnauba cleaner wax with a foam pad.

Still a lot of work but sure looks nice when done. First rain and the black steaks are back :(
