It has started to dawn on me that when manufacturers say a camper is 'made for 1/2 tons' what they mean is that it will physically fit in the truck bed....not that it will be within your payload capac...

Just a thought, but not all 1/2 tons (or any other truck for that mater) are created equal. If you bring up the 2014 F150 the TC rating goes from around 1,400# to 2,600# depending upon options. The F250 is 1,500# to 3,800#. When manufactures look at these numbers that's all they need to see to start their advertising campaigns. The box aka bed is a standard size for the F150, F250 and F350. Just pick long or short.
