It has started to dawn on me that when manufacturers say a camper is 'made for 1/2 tons' what they mean is that it will physically fit in the truck bed....not that it will be within your payload capac...

I compared the different versions of the f150. The rear axles are different between the 4wd and 2wd the 4wd being the heavy one. I checked axle diameters and spline count they are the same. the only thing the 2800lb payload has over my 7200lb is rear springs and 7 bolt pattern flange.
