It has started to dawn on me that when manufacturers say a camper is 'made for 1/2 tons' what they mean is that it will physically fit in the truck bed....not that it will be within your payload capac...

Park a 150/1500 next to a 250/2500 (or a 350/3500). Then take a look underneath them, comparing the suspensions and drive train.
And if that doesn't do it , take a closer look at the frame .
