It has started to dawn on me that when manufacturers say a camper is 'made for 1/2 tons' what they mean is that it will physically fit in the truck bed....not that it will be within your payload capac...

Park a 150/1500 next to a 250/2500 (or a 350/3500). Then take a look undeirneath them, comparing the suspensions and drive train.
I have done that very thing with my 1500 and many 250/2500's were less stout, less capable hauling and towing.
My only point is go by the specification, not the numbers on the side. Some 150/1500's don't approach 1/2 ton capability, some twice that. Same with the 3/4 and 1 ton.
You cannot make assumptions based on badges, you have to study the full specs.
