You would have to be high to think running a 2500lbs TC in any 1/2 ton pickup would be a good idea. I don't care want the door sticker says. I am no engineer but I would assume that there are other forces at play besides weight when you have two objects traveling at 65 mph encountering bumps, turns, sways, etc. The new F-150 is 700 lbs lighter giving it 700 lbs more payload? For almost a 3000 lbs payload? Are all the bolts, nuts, shock mounts, axle splines, wheel lugs, u-joints, sway bars, frame thickness, etc larger and rated higher than the steel on the f-250 with a 2400 lbs payload rating? Payload is GVWR - the weight of the truck? How does the manufacture come up with the GVWR? Don't they just try to fit it into some BS gov't classification? So in turn wouldn't all the payload ratings be a suggestions rather than the amount of weight a truck can actually carry safely?
