It has started to dawn on me that when manufacturers say a camper is 'made for 1/2 tons' what they mean is that it will physically fit in the truck bed....not that it will be within your payload capac...

Now 1/4 1/2 3/4m etc. do not have the same meaning
as they did years ago.
Manufacturers are crossing lines that were made
firm back then.
The only safe thing to do is to read the specifications
for the model you want and the options you are willing
to pay for. Then act accordingly.
