Magic Chef Oven Burner

I have a very standard 3-burner magic chef oven and stove. Stove works great, but I'm not so sure about the oven. We don't have a huge interest in using the oven, but it would be nice to have it right. It seems that no matter what the temp setting is, the burner has the same flame size. We've considered baking a pizza in the oven on our next trip, which would probably work. But if we wanted to make some pancakes and keep them in the oven on the "warm" setting, that would not work.

Is this a common problem with these stoves, or is there a chance that I have a bad burner or some other malfunctioning part?

  • Thanks for all the comments. We intend on getting a thermometer and pizza stone or tile. I've read on here before that the oven temps vary widely from the stated temp on the knob, but I wasn't aware that the flame would stay the same throughout (just turn on/off).

That is the way mine works as well. I thought they all did as I have had several and they all did.

That's why you really need to pre-heat oven and why it takes so long to get to temp.

One size flame. Kinda like one size fits all :B

  • Using a heat sink as discussed many times on here works wonders in the RV oven.

  • I would almost bet the burner is always the same, but the frequency of lit versus unlit would change.
  • You should be able to adjust the temperature to what you want. If you have an over thermometer use it to see what is happening as you adjust the temperature.

You can't go by the temps on the dial and the oven regulates the temperature by turning the burner on and off, not by the size of the flame.
