There seems to be a lot of random comments about how big of a truck people need for Mammoth. Seems like those who don’t have one are sure you need a 4500/5500 truck.So, if you have one, what do you have it on and how’s the sizing: just right, too big, or wish you had a bigger one?If you don’t have one, feel free to give your comments ... why not? ;)

I don't own a Mammoth or a TC right now but with the research I have done you don't need a 450/4500 or a 550/5500 to haul a Mammoth. 3500 dually will do it if you are not towing heavy.I have read on YouTube comments that Host told a guy he needs the jacks down to support the walls before you open the slides. I don't believe this but I don't own one so I can't really say you need too put the jacks down before you open the slides.I have thought about going fulltime later in life but wife needs room. I would not want to put the jacks down every time I have to open a slide. Like stopping at wally to buy food and need to put in the fridge. If this is true I will stay away from a TC with slides.

On our Cascade we never but the jacks down to open the slide. It never has been suggested by anyone including host that that was necessary. We often camp in west Texas and BlM land in airozona and New Mexico and never take the camper off the truck and have the slides out and no jacks down. I believe somebody is putting bad info out there.

Rare for a triple slide that is in production to have the 6'6 interior head room. Most have 6'4 which won't work for me because I'm 6'4. I need that extra 2 inches :B

I have a Ram 5500 hauling a Host Mammoth and towing an 8000 LB enclosed trailer. Here are my weights to give you an idea:The truck weighs about 11,000 lbs with a rear deck, six upper and lower storage boxes and a 42” double truss receiver extension holding my spare tire. With 600 lbs of batteries, storage boxes filled and occupants in the cab, we are around 12,000 lbs. My Host dry weight is about 4800 lbs. Once filled and loaded on the truck, I am around 17,500 lbs before I hitch up the trailer. The tongue weight on my trailer is about 1000 lbs going to a weight distribution hitch, but I am still over 18,000 lbs on the truck.

Had a loaded 2008 GMC 3500 and carries our Mammoth a few years with trips from Utah to Oregon every year. The camper scaled over 6,000 lbs on the longer trips and it felt ok with a bigwig sway bar and stablelifts. Because we wanted to tow, we went cab and chassis. I have seen perhaps 3-4 4500 or 5500 compared to many 3500s. I would also suspect most Mammoths delivered to dealers are on a 3500.

My truck order has been delivered. I'll be picking it up from Vegas to drive it down to Douglas in Bakersfield. Then up to Portland to inspect the camper and have it shipped down to Douglas. This is what I'll be rolling in... F550

Well, I own a 2018 Host Mammoth sitting on a 2015 F350 dually, 4door, short turning radius long bed. Have upper/lower stable loads, air bags and remote control, Ford bed liner, billsten shocks.
Camper was hit by a massive hail storm this summer, have to get it down to Pueblo to get hail damage repaired. Truck also, but have a couple of estimates for it.
Truck carries it fine. All I have to say!!

I stand corrected. It is 14k GVWR.
But I am not only the one who can read, but I can also understand technical aspect.
Even my 9900lb differential might be close to max, at 2900lb per tire x4 = 11,600lb, so I do have good safety margin in crucial part.
Than again, the 6500lb camper weight happen after we sold the house and had lot of stuff in the camper. That is not going to happen again, even the truck carried it just fine.

You may want to look at your door sticker again. A 2017 F350 DRW has a 14,000 LB GVWR.

The math is 7800 truck + 6500 TC = 14300 total.
Still good distance to 14,900 GVWR
