Good grief!, this is getting a bit testy! So, my personal opinion with no offense intended to anyone.....we use our little tacky lights in the evening when we're sitting outside and shut them off when we go in - unless we forget, because older people do that sometimes. If we don't have our tacky lights put up, we just use the porch light and some bug candles. Preference is that the lighting be soft and not illuminate for 20 miles around, but I wouldn't even consider going to someone's door and making an issue of it. The next day, however, I might consider wandering over and nicely mentioning that their lighting is really impressive, but if they could please shut it off when they head for bed, I would really appreciate it. Or if you don't feel comfortable personally going over to the site, there is always the option of asking the campground host or ranger if they would mention that there had been a concern about the amount of lighting they had on overnight. When we had our HTT - true story - the folks next to us in a huge 5er had a set of lights rigged up underneath the entire unit that lit up the whole area. With a HTT or PUP especially, it did make it tough to sleep without it bothering us. Neither DH nor I usually have a problem sleeping through some light, but our DS#1 wakes up with the slightest amount of light.
Re the concern of emergency personnel finding the right trailer, it's simple enough to go to the tow vehicle and put the flashers on for that length of time.
Recently on the hybrid side, a member asked for suggestions to "decorate" their campsite "so it could be seen from outer space".....and no joke was intended. I just think we all need to remember that sometimes these sites are in close quarters and that being considerate with lighting, sound systems, children, dogs, whatever should be high on their list of priorities. And while it's fun to take a walk through the campground and see all the different set-ups, having them visible at 3:00 in the morning may not be appreciated.
