I have been known to do it from time to time when im hooked up to shore power. I just have a plug that plugs into my light cord. I like the way it looks. The lights aren't that bright to really bother anyone. Looks a lot better than some of the million Christmas lights I see people putting out on just one sight. Id swear Clark Griswold was camping!!
Ive never been one to question why people do the things they do while camping. They paid for the site, let them do what they want as long as its within the rules.
