Serious question: Why does almost every "1/2 ton question" thread have to turn into "just get a 3/4 ton" bullying session? Not everyone needs or wants one. But yet week after week threads get ruined because of the repeated bashing from a 3/4 owner/fan. OP is asking about a specific truck. Just like if it was a specific style of camper. Unless the OP is attempting something that is going to obviously put him/her in danger, why the constant attempt to "upsell" to what you think they should have?
Thank you!!
That annoyed the heck out of me when I was trying to learn about what type of truck I needed, and the bias against the 1/2 ton was glaring and tainted, 95% of the information they were putting out was useless.
I learned a lot from this forum, but basically nothing when it came to what I needed to tow my 8,300lbs, 37 ft trailer.
If I wanted a 3/4 truck, I wouldn't have to come in here trying to learn what I needed to tow it, but just buy the biggest truck.
Of all the knowledge and experience they throw out, even when you are within capacity, most rarely try to educate you on anything you can do to enhance the towing experience, such as better tires for truck and trailer, better shocks, etc...just get a bigger truck.
If the trailer is over 6,000lbs, or 30 ft long and within capacity of the truck, it will be one doom and gloom story after another, with the TT too long for a 1/2 ton, brakes won't be adequate, tail wagging the dog, etc.
I worked with guys whow absolutely love big trucks, even if they live in an apartment and haul groceries.
When they make a 3/4 drive like, handle like, stop like, nimble like, easier to park like, same height like, etc, the F150 EB 10 speed, then I will get one, but for now,the XLT HDPP EB, 10 speed, SCreww 157 inch wheelbase can safely handle 90% of larger TT that are within it's capacity.
When it comes to towingwith a 1/2 ton, I have to go by specifications, not some tainted comments from someone who hasn't towed a heavy trailer wit a newer HDPP...show me the specs.
