Mayo Clinic - would you could take a Truck Camper

Wondering if anyone has experience with traveling to any of the three Main MAYO Clinic hospitals? Would you could you take a TC as a place to stay and support some one being treated. Particularly, the Jacksonville location.

NOT asking for personal medical experience just camping tips or possibilities in these locations.

This is an early planning info gathering effort.

Thanks,
  • I stayed in our TC several times when DW was undergoing treatments at a small Boston hospital. Not the most scenic, but it was secure, and allowed me to stay close by, comfortably.Security was most welcoming and "kept an eye" on everything for me. Give hospital security a call, and ask,let them know what your needs are; just a parking space, out of the way, where you can stay for a while. They are usally very sympathetic to individual needs. They are part of the care giving system...
  • Call them they might be able to let you stay ,TC's have a small footprint and easily parked . Some hospitals even have a couple of spaces that have power and set up for RV .
  • I would call them directly.

A lot of hospitals allow and provide a place for someone to stay with a patient. You would have access to shower etc. This would be helpful even if you stayed in your TC but needed to use bathroom facilities.
  • From a little bit of research, it seems that local ordinance prevents overnight parking in their lot with a camping vehicle. Would suggest you call them to make sure that is still valid or if exceptions can be made.

I agree that using the RV as a base for support is great. Last time my FIL was in, I stayed in the TC in the parking lot while my wife stayed at night with her father. Made her feel much better knowing I was only a few feet away in case she needed me.

Here is an older thread (2007) that may be of help.
    Mayo Clinic Jacksonville
  • The Jacksonville location does not have support on campus for RV parking, but there are some very fine RV parks within reasonable commuting distance. I have to wonder, however, if RVing in a truck camper is a wise thing to do while recovering from whatever procedures you will be having.
  • Why not just call them and ask so you will really know and not depend on speculations and what may have happened in the past. Rules change, so you need today's rules. I'm sure they will give you the information you need.

I don't know about MAYO CLinic but I hear it done alot on here with other facilities... Give them a call...
  • Maybe not be exactly what your looking for with respect to the Mayo Clinic, but I have stayed in our RV at a couple of other hospitals supporting my parents over the years without a problem. If you speak with security there they will direct you where to park your rig and not give you any problems.
