Trucks 20 years ago were much lighter. I had an extended cab 4WD F250 that weighed all of 5200 pounds empty. An F350 dually was right about 6000. Today's trucks are much heavier, with a SRW F250 having the same GVWR as a 20 year old DRW F350. Makes me wonder why we even use the terms "1 ton", etc the days since they are meaningless.
Back to the original topic, if someone asked about using a new F150, Ram or GM 1500 to tow an 8K dry trailer vs. a 15 year old dually we would be having the same discussion. The new trucks have more power and can handle the load safely but some guys want the security of a bigger, heavier truck.
