mice

Go figure, all winter, we had no mice, in the month between camping trips, some little rodent climbed up our water holding tank's hose and chewed away the black insulation the factory used. Of course they didn't do much damage, but leaving little "evidence" of them being there in the rig. Nothing like finding this out the night before we left for our camping trip.

I am a big fan of empting any food/spices out of the camper between trips, mind you we do live in the country, so 8 years without a rodent issues, I guess we are lucky.

I bought some non-expanding foam at Wal-mart and filled in where they ate thru. Mind you I did a great job as I know that once you open the can, you have to use it all.

We always used dryer sheets and never had any problems. Anyone else have any other options as well? Thanks in advance.

  • People have been out smarting rodents and vice versa for millennia.

I live in the country and so do they. Sometimes I get the mouse; sometimes they get me.

We use dryer sheets, various repellents, traps and a cat. The battle continues.
  • 2 things work for us......peppermint oil on cotton balls placed inside camper when stored. Red fox urine on exterior. Sold in hunting supplies at Dicks. they have clip on containers used on hunters clothing that will attach to rv frame. Spray urine into pad of container + refresh every few weeks.
  • I always empty everything from the TT. All food items, (cans, too), soap, toothpaste, shampoo, candles, firewood, incense, etc. Anything that has any kind of scent.
Then, a inside-out, upside-down cleaning to remove any bits of anything that might attract rodents/insects.
Turn the lights on from the inside at night, and block any cracks that light can come through. I put hi-vis, (so I don't forget to remove it) tape over vent openings to stop the insects.

Then, the thing that I do different than many others: I do not set any kind of traps. They ATTRACT the rodents/insects. That's how they work. I will set out rubber snakes,(from the dollar store) under and around the TT. Move them around every couple of days. Sounds silly, but the mice don't know they're fake. They see them and run.
