We have lived in the country for the last 30+ years. Have always had outside cats and used Dcon and other poisons with about the same luck you have had. About four years ago I ran across a tip from a pest control forum I have read for years. So far, it has worked like a charm. The pleasant odor of peppermint that we as humans usually find most pleasant seems to mess up a rodent's sense of smell something awful. We used peppermint tea bags and placed one in each corner of a room where we discovered traces of mice and it was the best deterrent we have ever used. Placed a couple in our pantry where we have always had trouble keeping them out and a couple of days later they had vacated. I have them under control and every two to three months I will rotate fresh tea bags in a couple of rooms. Been mice and rodent free for at least four years now and will continue to use peppermint tea bags as long as they continue to work as well as they do. All I can say is give it a try as it is not an expensive option and if it works as well for you as it has for us you will be very pleased. Good luck with the little critters!
