Whats the best mouse deterrent? i tried mouse poison and it worked but now I'm finding dead mice. One climbed into the hood of a jacket and died. Oh the smell. Can't find how they got into the travel trailer.
We use Bounce fabric softners. I place the little sheets in all the drawers, under the bed, cargo area, under couch, and under both sinks. Works. I do not have any mice. The one time I did not use them, I had to trap two mice. It has to be bounce and not the cheap stuff. It also keeps the RV smelling nice.
Not mice, but we have chipmunks so this year we are trying the peppermint route, "Fresh Cab" packets initially and refortified with a dropper of real peppermint oil every month. Will see if that works.
I have used glue traps the one or two times we had them in the motorhome. I didn't want them eating poison and dying somewhere I couldn't get to them.
Putting poison out and especially outside means that other animals that feed on mice, i.e., owls, cats, hawks, etc., will die when they ingest those poisoned mice.
The peppermint is an interesting idea. I think I would try that.
Best things we have found, is... real peppermint scent (not the cheap fake stuff for indoor smell-good purpose) in the possible openings, mouse traps with peanut butter and cheese on top, and sealing obvious openings in the frame with strong sealant and/or wire mesh - but be prudent about this, they can squeeze into through very small openings. And always keep checking once a week... it's a constant battle of wits and cunning if you're in the country.
Once they get inside they migrate to your heater. Had to have ours sanitized. We now use sniff & repel bags, or something like that I don't remember the exact name.
We have two cats that have been with us since we lived on the farm. The only rodents or mice that show up in our rig are there because they seek help with assisted suicide.
