Michelin Tires

Daughter and SIL just sent me a picture of their second set of
Michelin LTX-MS 30/9.5R15LT load range C...at about 42K miles, and it
was down about 30%...so should have had another 84K or so miles left...

1998 Mazda B2500....a Ford Ranger half ton

Sidewall cracks

First set of Michelin LTX-MS 30/9.5R15LT Load Range C I put on around 2000
went +120K miles

They sent the pic below and shows sidewall cracks with
about 70% tread left

Since they are now parents...they sold both their sport bikes and no
longer tow them on a trailer. So they have gone back to 'P' class

All of mine also cracked like crazy just like theirs. LTX-AT and LTX-MS

Confirmation to me...not going to touch Michelins till some one has a
better reason...but there are many, many other choices...

Our Dodge is sporting a new set of Michelin Defender LTX M/S tires and a set of extended valve stems from Chuck the Tire Man. The installation was done by our local Discount Tire. So far we are happy with the tires, the valve stems, and the installation. With the extended valve stems, checking and adjusting pressures is a piece of cake, even with the dually tires.

Have the stock LTX AT2 and leaning towards the Defender also. A bit torn as mine did not were great IMO. Costco up here is 1285 with the 70 buck rebate.

found this post to late just put on 4 defender LTX M/S on my gmc sierra 2500 today guess I'll find out soon several trips planned

I believe the Michelin Defender series has replaced the M/S2 series.

Bought two Defenders (fronts) from Discount Auto in Sanford, Fl last fall. Bought 4 Defenders (rears) from Costco, Ft Myers in April. Cost was about the same - in round numbers $240-$250 each, including mounting, balancing, road hazard, etc and tax.

** On edit - How about if I change 'Discount Auto' to 'Discount Tire'.

My local Costco will only install OEM listed size tires...but if you bring in just
the wheels, they will mount any size on it you pay for

Manager said corporate rules, as too many come backs with over sized
and they are NOT setup for 'extra' time per sale...

My experience with discount and Costco are this. I called discount for a price on good year 6-14's for a friend coming to casa grande az. It was a shock the price I was quoted compared to what I had just paid for ours in Wenatchee from an old time tire store. Then I bought the Michelins for our chev and all 3 were almost the same with the old time store a few buck per tire less but at the time of install the price was less than the quote and I had complete control of the date the tires were made. So now buying the new defender Michelins for the GMC discount and Costco were the same but Costco takes good care of warranty from others I have talked to. Plus for the first tire install for us in many years the Costco installed did the torque correct, not over tight using the impact wrench and doing the fake click, click using the hand torque wrench and not turning the lug nut any. happy with Costco's.

The Costco store ground in east Wenatchee wash. was my play area as a kid.

Had both Toyos and Michelins on my 2005 Ram. Toyos were better.

Don't know how you came to that conclusion?
I took off Toyo's and put on Michelin's MS/2x and could not be happier!!
Wet traction is far superior with the Michelin's! I have gone two winters in the PNW and have not needed to add any weight to the bed to keep the tires from spinning on wet pavement! With the Toyo's even with 300# in the back, it was a constant battle to not spin the tires on wet pavement.

If you are referring to my pic above, yes Costco sells these. BUT I highly advise checking with Discount/Americas Tire also. I thought Costco was the only place to buy Michelin's. I happened to be at Discount dealing with a tread separation on my 11 RAM Dually and had them give me a price just for fun. Later that day we went to Costco, they were $300 more for 6 tires so I called Discount and they had the set in the next morning. Pulled the RV into their place unhooked and the store Manager did the entire swap and balance. I had mentioned I wanted someone who knew what they were doing since the Factory Alcoa's are not cheap. I was impressed for sure all the way around.

So when I ordered my 15 RAM I went to discount ordered 6 MS2's to be ready by a certain date. Had them installed 200 miles and sold the NEXENS that came on the truck for $650.

I paid $1,278 out the door for 6 on the last set.

Costco can sell you just about any tire. They stock Michelins, put might have to order in a particular size. Only takes a day or two. Go on their web site and look for what you want.
