- RoyBExplorer IIWe carry the el-cheapo WALMART SPECIAL White faced manual knob model Microwave for camping off the power grid all the time. Looks something like this one...
It gets stored in the floor, banged around, sometimes sitting up side down, and has worked flawlessly for the past few years. Cost $35-$40... Its alot like the old TIMEX commercial... It takes a licking and keeps on ticking...
It works great from our Inverter when camping off the power grid... All we use it for is to warm up the coffee cup and some very basic microwave needs. Its been a great PLAN B item to have around...
Roy Ken - Chuck_SExplorerHere's ours. Just sits on a shelf behind the louvered faceplate. Probably screwed down somehow, I've not looked behind the faceplate in a couple of years.
Any nonsense about "ruggedized" microwaves at Camping World is just that: Nonsense.
-- Chuck - All58ParksExplorerReplaced my microwave with a cheap $50 Walmart special. No problems in all the years I owned it.
- dadmomhExplorerShould be fine. Ours at home is built in and has only the vents on the trim plate and it's fine. As long as the air can circulate, that's what matters. Suggest you try to get as close to the current size as you can. Dear cousin and her DH had to replace theirs and shopped by price rather than size....he spent all sorts of time making a trim piece from nice wood and staining it because the one they bought didn't have a trim piece available. Might even try getting your make and model and see if the same one happens to be available online....would make life simpler.
- tbolt2000ExplorerIf the old one is "built in" and vents from the top with a metal channel directing the air flow to the front trim. So any small counter top microwave will work? The cabinet the old one sits in has some open space in the back so that would be enough to vent if cant find one that vents to the front?

:) :) :) We used a Walmart micro in our small 5th wheel for 3 yrs.....and the roads we went over would have qualified for the off-road adventures show. ANY micro can handle some jostling.......
The CW story sounds like it likely came from a salesman. - dadmomhExplorerAgree that probably anything that appeals to you from one of the big box stores is going to be fine. You may have to order a trim piece if the one you have now doesn't fit, but should not be a big problem.

Your microwave ha a brand name and model. It's a standard counter top microwave with a face plate to hide it and make it look "built in." I saw the exact model that's in our Roo at (probably) Walmart for under $50 a year or two ago. Probably still selling it.

I don't build them, but have heard claims that the microwaves sold in CW are made to be under jostling around as they go down the road. - Chuck_SExplorerYour microwave ha a brand name and model.
