I love those Tiger 4x4s; they are even more incognito than a regular truck/TC combo.
For those who enjoy a bit of stealth, from a distance (or even up close if he's not that observant) Joe Public thinks he's looking at just another SUV or van!
May not be my "dream" choice for extended travel but I'd LOVE to have a Tiger 4x4 for quick jaunts, out-of-town music festivals, exploring off-road, etc.
It is pretty impossible to be incognito in a Tiger. Wherever I go, people ask me about it. They'll even pull up next to me at a traffic light and take pictures. If you want incognito, get a basic Lance on a basic truck; there are zillions of those here in Southern California.
I have a Tiger CX 4x4 regular cab because:
It has direct access from coach to cab.
It is narrower than and not as tall as the usual hardside TC.
It has larger waste tanks than the TC's I researched.
At under 20 ft. it fits into the parking space I have at home.
When I was shopping (about 2004 to 2006) for a unit to replace my well-loved little 1983 Toyota 4x4 Class C, my criteria were:
length under 22 feet.
4x4
hard side, no slides
$80K max price including delivery, DMV fees, California sales tax
at least 6 feet of headroom inside
minimal unit height and width
tanks (water and waste) big enough for a week
coach-cab access large enough for a large human to go through
I looked at a whole bunch of TC's and really liked them. I even visited the factories for Alaskan, Callen, SixPac, and Sportsmobile (van). I drove 300 miles to visit a Tiger owner who generously allowed me to thoroughly inspect his rig.
I know myself well enough to know that even if I had a TC I would never take it off the truck.
If I had to buy a TC today, I guess my dream setup might be a no-slide Lance on a basic HD 4x4 truck, but only if it met the criteria above and if I could somehow easily go from living quarters to driver's seat. Could enough money buy that?
I firmly believe that there is no perfect RV. There are some things I don't like about my Tiger, but I don't obsess about them or pour money into changing them. It's been a good ride so far (7 years, almost 57K miles). My longest trip in it was 7.5 weeks and I never felt cramped for space. I've spent over a year of nights in it.
Where am I going? Mostly the American west. On road, off road, wherever my fancy takes me.
