Most RELIABLE Diesel 1 Ton Truck???

Hi
I am in the market for a used diesel 1 Ton single rear axle truck. I have no real preference among the big three. I like all of them. I just want something I can depend on...not just the engine but the whole truck. This is especially an issue when buying used. I am looking for a one or two year old truck with under 50k miles.

What's your recommendation?

Thanks
Matt

  • 5.9 Cummings with a six speed.

I don't think he is going to find one that is under 50k miles, and only a couple years old...that is what he is requesting.
  • The big 3 all build good trucks, it all boils down to personal preference and how well the vehicle has been maintained. Try to find one that was privately owned for personal use, many are fleet lease returns that have been ridden hard and put away wet. These are generally bare bones 'tradesman' builds, a well appointed truck will be more likely but not always well taken care of.
  • I agree with Scott. 5.9 Cummings with a six speed. Get as few of the nice things as you can, skip power windows, power seats, power mirrors. If you can find one without ac or a stereo that would limit the amount of things that could go wrong. All joking aside, the 5.9/6 speed would be a top choice for me, right there with a 7.3l zf6 combo.
  • Ram. And I don't own one.

They still have a CP3 pump and a medium duty truck tranny if you get the Asian.
