Fuel cost is a consideration for me. I'm not into camping for the sake of camping. We've got great camping spots less than 15 miles from home, but I want to see new country. For spring break, we wanted to take the grandkids to San Antonio (about 475 miles each way for us). It was cheaper and less hassle to take the minivan and hotel it 4 nights. For our summer vacation, we went on a shorter, 650 mile round-trip over 6 nights. The TT was ideal for this. For me the consideration is the ratio of nights out vs miles traveled.
Next year, I'll be retired and I intend to go places and not be in a hurry. First up is a 3 week winter trip to Florida, then a couple of weeks in the Ozarks in the spring, followed by a month in summer somewhere cooler than here.
