I always calculate using $4.00 per gallon at 10 mpg seems to work for me.
I worked the majority of my life to get the kids off to a good start and they are so the rest is mine. If there is any thing left fine if not that is good also.
If I need society to support me the last few years that is good also. I spent 50 years being a contributing member,and if I need some back so be it.
