muffler tape

Anyone know how muffler/tailpipe tape holds up? A new tail pipe for my 06 Dodge cummins is around $200+. The pipe has rusted out on the top where it goes up-over the rear axle. Thanks
  • They sell band clamps that will patch a hole about half the width of the clamp. If the hole is bigger than that, it is time to replace that section of pipe.

    X6!
    Or so
  • I agree with everyone else about doing it right. I have used it but only as a stop gap and sometimes it actually stayed put for a while, that's why I used it more than once, but bottom line is it is going to fail. The rust will win.

  • I tried some to temporarily secure a heat shield. It didn't even last one drive.
  • muffler tape is nothing but a band aid. and as you know band aids have to be replaced with new ones. so like said above, get it fixed right the first time.
  • Bite the bullet and fix it right or it's just going to be an ongoing issue.
  • Go with a after market pipe. I bought the whole system in 5" diameter for $300. I think a full set of 4" pipes from turbo back was $250.
