I use tape, a line on each side of the bed and a short piece at the back/center of the bed. A bonus with the side strips of tape, is catching the goo that oozed out of the bottom seams of my camper. Not that I planned it, but those seams rest on the tape, keeping the sticky putty/goo off my bed mat. I like the pipe/driveway marker idea, though, and I'll probably give it a try.
