My new rig
My 1999 ford f-250 crew cab 7.3 diesel rotted to death! I was unable to use my Lance 861 for the last 5 years waiting for enough monetary relief (my son graduated) to buy a new truck. And a new one indeed! I got another f-250 xlt crewcab 4x4 with the 6.2 gas this time, but alas...no camper package ego no helper springs. I since added a rear hellwig anti sway bar, Bilstein shocks (those ford MOTORCRAFT/RAUNCHOS HAD TO GO), airlift premier ultimate 5000 air bags with the jounce inside aired separately(2 valves) but from the drivers rear wheel well together. I added a FRONT VALANCE 2" kurt hitch receiver to take my beach basket, and TORK-LIFT Talons for tie downs. I am reusing my happi jack turn buckels and added a small length of chain at each talon to make up the length. I ran my electrical plug wiring leads INTO the "Ford 5th wheel rear plug" where you would tie in with an in bed rear rv socket. I used the 4 connections there for RT,LFT,Run, and reverse lighting. I ordered online 8 Gauge marine wire for my power leads (15 foot 2 conductor tinned copper) which I fused at the battery on the positive. I have the lance cab over shocks in use again but for some reason the length is a tad too long. I may have to move them back, or give them up.
As i cleaned up my camper (Lance 861 2006) I am amazed that EVERYTHING came back to life so well! I always had the 2 golf cart batteries I installed in 2012 being floated by the onboard intellicharger and it did a swell job of preserving them. I ran the radio and lights...ran the legs up and down numerous times and the slide out in and out over 3 days on batteries alone and they still held as GOOD on the monitor. I was impressed.
I since ordered leds for the 7 dome light bulbs inside and the two cab sleeping area reading lights, as well as the 3 lights outside on the walls and the rear.
I installed a rear reverse camera that mounts to the license plate and plugs into Fords factory plug that the tail gate camera plugs into. My over all height is 12 feet on the nose....my weight is....well undetermined but we ALL know that story.
I'm thrilled to be back in the game. I miss the beach trips. I been boat fishing the last 5 years off shore. I plan to do some visiting and some long range trips. I am always grateful to everyone here who so freely help a guy out making choices and resolving issues. I know this was a long post but hey...i'm retired!...lol
