my new tow vehicle - well, maybe

Well, I purchased my wife a 2009 Tahoe yesterday, and I am thinking this may be our next tow vehicle. I still have my truck, but I am thinking I will get rid of the fifth wheel and get a bumper pull so we can use the Tahoe to pull with, this would allow us to all ride in the same vehicle when we go camping. The Tahoe has the 5.3l and six speed transmission, factory tow kit installed. I will have to do some research on what we can tow with the Tahoe, but it should pull a fairly good size trailer with ease.

Those of you that drive a Tahoe, or have in the past, what type of trailer did you pull with it?
  • I have an 03' Tahoe with the 5.3 and 3.73 gear ratio. Pulled a 28'tt that was exactly 6,700# fully loaded. 6,700# was too much for my Tahoe. I could not maintain speeds on highway without transmission jumping around a lot on ANY type of hill. In my opinion was simply too much weight for my Tahoe, but I did not have the 6 speed transmission.
I would go with something in the 5,000# empty weight range and you will be fine. Otherwise I love my Tahoe, been the best vehicle I have ever owned, very few problems so far.
