- kenboatExplorerIMHO, I wouldn't drive to much till I new what was wrong. A true lean condition will cause serious internal engine damage.
- MM49ExplorerMost lean faults are caused be a bad fuel pump. The pump communtator will wear out and mechanicaly bind when it is hot. When it cools it work normally.
mm49 - BurbManExplorer IIMark, were you able to get this resolved?
- BurbManExplorer III know the 8.1 has coil packs but they are mounted on the valve covers and use short wires to the plugs. I think the 6.0L is the same but not 100% sure. Even coil packs are easy to remove, just two small bolts that hold them down.
If you haven't done plugs/wires in a while I would start there. - PAThwackerExplorerMy 2004 6.0 Is throwing codes for misfires. Does that engine have coil packs or is it an easy do it yourself plug change? Current odometer is at 115k.
- Bearsfanatic85ExplorerI just got my Tundra out of the shop today for the same thing, the fuel filter was almost plugged solid, Cheap enough to change it before spending $$$ to find out
- BurbManExplorer IIMark, sorry I was out of town last week. I looked in the shop manual for DTC P-0171 and here is the diagnostic tree:
The above pics are links so you should be able to see them full size on Photobucket and print. If you want me to email the pdf just PM your email address.
Again this is the 2001 manual for all GM truck SUV, Suburban, Yukon XL, Silverado, Tahoe, Yukon, Sierra, all engines including DMax.
As was noted could be vacuum leak at the manifold, exhaust leak etc. MY $.02, if you are on the original fuel pump it's on borrowed time....I would change that first (since It's likely to go soon anyway) and see if that clears the issue. That is more probable in my mind than an intake or exhaust leak, but hey, I've been wrong before! - MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerThanks so much I cleared the code yesterday but it came back today. Its saying lean bank 1 I think 0171 ?? will check into o2 sensor.
- kw_00ExplorerThe O2 sensor on my old 2002 Chevy was the culprit as well. In fact I had 3 bad ones....
- BurbManExplorer IIThe GM shop manual I have for my 2001 gives a diagnostic trouble tree for each code based on the code #, model year 2000 should be the same. I can provide the info with the code # and engine size.
OR, get a Tech II scanner and plug it in and test the O2 sensors in real time.
