I know I have been guilty of sleepy driving in the past, and even had a close call like yours, on I-5 north of Buttonwillow about 3 yrs ago. Woke up as I drifted into the left lane, and got honked at.
It hard to image this on a sunny Sunday around mid-day (at about 12:30 in the afternoon). I suppose someone pulled an all nighter or something. It is hard to imagine someone that absorbed in texting, but being asleep at the wheel might be what happened.
