Agreed.
I reckon it's time to lock this thread. - Super_DaveExplorerMaybe mods should find a way to discourage hijacking threads with personal philosophy. One poor response is just that until it turns into a biotch match.
- sleepyExplorerIf it were only IR it wouldn't be a problem.
Infrared light is one type of light that is invisible to us. Gamma rays, X-rays, ultraviolet light, microwaves and radio waves are other types of invisible light. All of these rays and waves are the same type of electromagnetic energy.
If it's being used a a switch for visible light... it's the visible light that pollutes. IR is NOT the problem.
Many of the municipalities in certaian parts of the country have their lights pointed down on street lights and parking lots... none of the light expanding or pointing up. Calif, AZ are notible.
As far as outside lights going on and off... do you rally think it scares the home invaders off... when the lights come on your neighbors turn their backs...just like they do when they hear car alarms going off... The deer arent afraid of your lights... the boogie man will get you anyway... no one will notice. Some neighbor hoods hear so much shooting they quit looking... they just duck and cover.
Next we'll see MH's with bars on the windows... We thought we'd seen one and were laughing about it... as we got closer we saw that it was a prison bus... all shinny and new... even had a place for the sewer hose to connect. If it can keep the criminals in then it should keep the booger man out.
Now you're thinking... old sleepy knew all along about IR...
My goodness... is there really any possibility of just carring a flash light pointed down and out of your neighbors eyes and windows as a courtesy just like you did for many years.

I believe it's "Infra-Red" - IR
It is an old technology that has been greatly improved over the years.
An exterior IR light is important for those of us that get home later than expected in the pitch dark.
Early model IR lights would trigger if a moth flew across their field-of-view.
Newer models require a much larger infra-red energy mass size such as a human, a bear, a deer, etc.
We have IR lights stationed around our home which is somewhat isolated.
Neighbors can't see us - the IR lights let us know when the deer come at night to strip our garden.
And we've never had a burglar.
Your negative experience with IR lights is a bit pre-historic and well known to those familiar with the subject. - homefor2ExplorerI'll tell you what I'm afraid of at night, falling over my BBQ. or wood pile or table and chairs that I can't see in the pitch dark. My motion light comes on, I go into the camper and turn off my motion light. If that's a problem for anyone, please don't shoot. I don't carry a gun.
- wow.... this thread deteriorated in a hurry..... started about motion lights, then evolved to shooting around RVs.... and there wasn't even any mention of guns.... ?!?
A friend showed me one he bought for his RV, which is a set up as a cabin at some property he owns in the hills. He installed it, but I honestly don't know why because I've been there about 6 times, and they refuse to turn on any outside lights.
I've thought about one, but the mounting holes don't match the original light, and I didn't like the idea of drilling more holes in the outside of the rig, but they are a very nice light fixture... I've look at them a number of times. - Fuller_JohnsonExplorer III've had one of those for about 2 years now. Yes I like it if for nothing more than a convesation piece. In the daytime a Blue? light will flash. At night a green light will flash untill it detects motion then the LED will come on. Very Handy for coming home in the Dark.
You can cycle the switch to make it stay on if you like or if I ever stay next to Sleepy I can turn it off :) So Far No One has Complained they're Just Curious. - SCVJeffExplorerInfra Red... You have no idea what it even is you're complaining about... Amazing.
If you are going to endlessly rant on a thread or to some poor poster simply asking a question, then know what you are talking about! These light rants of yours are getting old. The OP asked a simple question and you come along and spoil the entire thread. - sleepyExplorer

I find this post rude. Take a nap Sleepy.
you out there with IR lights, including those of us who only use them when boondocking are ordered to shut them off immediately, so Sleepy (who apparently has no curtains), won't wake up in a sour mood.
Or just ignore it...
Well Jeff...
I notice that half the responses are by the folks with motorised house trailers (mobil homes) or pull behinds...
It's not likely we'll ever meet up.
We'd never frequent the same places... I would never stay in park with hook ups... don't need them.
When I was 11 years old (1951) I camped in surplus Army pup tent by myself in the deep woods of WV... along lakes and trout streams... no lights... heck if there was a boogie man I sure didn't want to see him.
I'm not afraid in my home, or in my truck camper... the best sleep comes in the dark.
Thats apparently where the boogie man stays anyway...
By the way...what is an IR light... and what is it that scares you? - SCVJeffExplorer
