Need a new awning

I've come up against something I've never done before, and that is, replace an awning. Ours is mechanically fine but the vinyl is starting to shred and it needs replacing. Here are my questions:

1. Where do I begin to look for a replacement?
2. Is it possible to replace the vinyl and use the old mechanism?
3. What can I expect to pay?
4. Is this a DIY project, and if so what level of expertise is needed?

Thanks in advance!
  • This is the third year for our Camping World vinyl material and it seems to be doing fine.
  • I bought mine from RVAwningsMart.com 3 years ago. Very pleased with the price and especially the quality of the fabric. Still looks like new.

  • When we needed to replace the awning fabric on a previous trailer, I checked prices on replacements. It was a manual Dometic. Our local Camping World had a sale where they charged $49 to install new OEM fabric. All in all, it was about $15 more for them to do it than me order it, pay for shipping, and then install it.
I took the trailer in and 2 hours later, had a new awning.
You might want to check to see if they still do something like that.
  • There is a good chance you can get OEM from the maker of your awning. I know Colorado sells replacement vinyl You could check Dometic as well.

And I'm thinking the replacement vinyl should slide into the tracks on the roof, and roller.
  • Avoid the eBay awning material that's $129. I bought it and the light and heat comes right through it because it's such junk.
  • eBay.com they have all sizes and colors
Click on motors then click on parts and accessories
Then click on rv parts and accessories then rv awning
    in search bar.
  • 1. Toughtop awnings
    2. Yes
    3. Check their web site it depends on size and fabric
    4. Easy two man job. Lots of youtube videos explain the process
