Go with a diesel truck. Also, forget the dry weights and look at the trailers GVWR. Depending on how much you load, you will be moving toward the GVWr weight in real life.
For the trailers you are looking at, I'd seriously consider a dually (DRW).
The trailers you ae looking at will have a GVWR over 15,000# which means a pin weight of 3000# or so when loaded. Can your loaded truck handle and additional 3000# . Forget the fictitious manufacturers payload in the brochure. They cheat like mad with a stripped down model and only a 150# driver on board and much less then a full tank of fuel.
With the current trucks, driver a Chevy, a Ram Cummins and a Ford and pick the one you like that can handle the load and you can make a decent deal on. They are all pretty decent trucks now.
