Hey guys. Im leaving for our maiden voyage here in about an hour and a half and I haven't a clue how to get my fridge to operate with gas. Its one of those "either 120 AC or gas" deals. I read all the stuff on it and cant figure it out. The fridge says push this button to turn on and it will automatically select between gas and AC. I pushed the button and nothing happened. Either its not working or it doesn't hum. Gas is on and it has an automatic pilot light if that helps.

They make no noise, save for a small whooshing sound of the gas flame. If it's quiet go out and pull the back panel and listen. Nothing will happen for about an hour when you should start to feel the freezer getting cold.

How can I tell if its on? Just wait an see? Lol

What brand is it? If you turned it on and turned it to gas, some models have no light showing at all unless it is NOT working, in which case the check light comes on. Also, make sure you have power to the fridge -- is your battery connected?One way to check if the gas is working (and you don't want to wait for the fridge to cool down) is to remove the outside access panel and very carefully touch the burner area at the bottom of the compartment. You should feel heat.

Its got a light on it and it does illuminate with 120v.Battery is connected. As to whether it works... Not sure. My monitor panel says its fully charged when plugged into 120v. As to whether that's because the battery charger kicked in, im not sure

Absorbation refers take about 24 hours to cool down. You waited too long to start it up I'm afraid to do you much good. Be sure the gas is flowing by lighting off a stove burner. Then turn on the refer. Press on you should see some lights come on. Then press to select auto. Wen on and working it may or may not have a LED by gas. If it does not start you will see an error message LED.

My fridge in my 1994 lance has a selector switch... Turn to gas hold down button til the light goes out.... Make sure battery and propane are on....

You (or someone standing by the panel outside) should also be able to hear the igniter clicking rapidly...a short (3-5 seconds) igniter cycle usually indicates success...a long igniter cycle (20 seconds or more) generally indicates a problem.

Make sure the gas is on by lighting your gas stove. Then make sure you have UNplugged your shore line (110V cord). Stand outside next to the refrigerator vent and have someone go inside and turn on the refrigerator. You will hear a few clicks followed by a quiet "woosh." The clicks is the igniter and the whoosh is the gas lighting. If it keeps clicking for about 30 seconds, it is not lighting off. You can usually hear it inside the camper if everything is quiet.

After you successfully complete the above test, you can plug your shore line back in until you leave. Important!! Make sure you unplug before you leave - not after. If you leave your camper plugged into your house when you leave, you will be sad.

On my fridge, when in auto mode the gas automatically fires up when shore power is unplugged. When plugged back in, it converts back to 120v.

Tis a Dometic. Im going to take the camper with me to work tonight (3 hours) and leave directly for the campground. Ill leave the fridge in the "On" position and see if it works. And of course itll be plugged into 120v once we arrive at the campground

My Norcold absorption fridge cools to -10 degrees in 4 hours.

If you are connected to 120vac then it may try to work off of AC mode. Mine is a Norcold and auto selects between whatever is available. But if I push the button once it selects AC, 2 for GAS and 3 for DC. I would unplug the AC and see if it picks up the GAS mode.

If you haven't run anything on gas lately try lighting a burner or two on the stove. There can be air in the lines but if a couple of burners are operating normally you should have good gas flow to the frig. As noted nothing happens (no sound), for an hour or so and then the freezer will begin to chill and the frig will take longer. :C
