looking for something between Hwy 4 and 49/89 area. Have my TC for the weekend, Dry Fly either with waders on a stream or float tube on a lake. Rig is big so no goat tracks, logging roads ok. Heading out Friday night 7/26 returning Sunday night 7/28so far my thoughts are around Truckee or Sierra City on the Yubaany other suggestions?Jake is raring to go

Hope Valley (off 88, near 889) on the Carson river and/or Upper Blue Lake and/or Lower Blue Lake. Campground or boondock in Hope valley. Campground (dry, pit toilet) at the two lakes.Wayne

I'm with Reddog1 on Hope Valley. If you head West from Pickett's Junction, (88/89 intersection) for a mile or two, there's a gate on the North side. (Right) Pull in there and camp for free. Then walk to the Walker river and head downstream across the highway. The water will go from lazy to pretty darn fast and you'll have to use some caution. Then the river gets great to fish.

We will be at Meadow Lake outside of Truckee that weekend at the PG&E campground. Stop by if you are in the area. Don't know about the fishing in that area much but plan to find out.

Yeah I like doing a mix of lake and stream fishing which is why I bought the float and I have a set of gore tex chest waders with hiking boots. Mornings and days on the streams, then twilight on the lake with the TC nearby to finish the day.

Gotta say, if RenoAl says it about fishing in that area, you better believe it. Fishing is his passion, and that area is his backyard.

Would work great in the Upper or Lower Blue lakes. The river is not deep enough or wide enough to be of value for a float tube.

I really do not think you would be disappointed.

If you are going up Carson pass, throw the float tube in Blue Lakes, Red lake or Caples lake by the dam. All three have worked for me.
