Fishing Question

I'm curious about this, too. Can you get just one license for BC or do you need local licenses?

Probably every body of water with fish has a fishing report. I'm currently on my bucket list in east Texas for bass fishing and review fishing reports and forums for tackle, locations and latest trends. Your trip sounds like fun too! Guess I'll just add to my bucket list. Post some photos too!

one licence for all of bc.you can get single day or week.popular gear are spinners,wedding bands, bobber and worm.if you see a tackle store go in and ask them whats working and where to go fish,they are more than willing to help you out.be sure to drop a couple $ on some gear and everyones happy. every towns got at least one store.i do it all the time.also take advantage of the visitors info centers.they are a wealth of info for local stuff.

Not crazy at all, but I always go "catching" -- I never go "fishing". Then end coming home & having Mac & Cheese. :B

Keep another thing in mind. If you can even resource this information, don't know if it's possible, BUT .....

Knowing about "natural exsisting" baits within any given region would be helpfull information also.

In Alaska one license will be good state wide and on the salt water.

Fishing the lakes will work with your fishing rig. No pan fish and mostly trout in the lakes. Some may have northern Pike. As your traveling check with the locals as to the rigging they are using and what they are catching.

Fishing for Salmon may require a heavier rig then you have. Fish 6 to 12lbs., fast current and needing some heft to horse them in when your in a combat situation. I use a 9' medium rod with 30lb braided line, open faced reel. Fishing the Kenai you can buy rigs from Trustworthy in Soldotna and they can rig you up.

Salt water, you will need to go out with a charter and they have everything you need on board.

You will need a fresh water fishing licence for BC BC fish the BC fishing licence is bought on line, if you go to a sports shop to buy one they will either say you have to buy it on line, or like a few places around here will let you use their computer and printer to get your license. So you can have it before you even make up to Canada.
You will also need a fishing permit for any of the Canadain Natinal park like Banff and Jasper. This permit is totally differnt form a BC and an Alberta Fishing Licence

You will need a knife and a club when fishing for salmon. You club them after reeling them in and then cut the gills so the fish bleed out. If you plan on fishing for King salmon in Alaska, you need a special tag and are limited as to how many you can catch. I had a knee injury and could not fish but my spouse had a blast. We are already planning a return trip in 2017.

There was a book out called the Alaska Highway Angler, that is really quite good. Yes you need a license for each state, province or territory but I never thought any of the were trying to gouge me. I often had an Alaska license from living there, the got aYT, BC and Alberta ones. Then depending on where in the lower 48 I would buy the needed states.

In my RV I carry a pair of fishing rigs, a cheap fly rod/reel and a spinning rod/reel. They just lay in the back for instant access whenever we stop by any fishy looking water. My good rods/reels travel in metal rod cases, put away. I keep a small plastic box of lures to throw with the spinning rig in the back seat also. Many times just walking a quarter mile away from the road will put you on some fish, dollies, trout, pike, grayling, white fish, etc. like the OP said, catching is nice but but just being out there is also.
I throw small Mepps, gold spoons, Pixies, Dardevils, red and white mainly, and catch a few fish here an there. LOL
I have also talked to some very knowledgeable Fred Meyer staff at the Soldotna store in the sporting goods dept. The hardware store on the west side of the highway just north of the Kenai River bridge can't be beat.
