Interesting comparison. I know the truck has decent power as I have pulled a car trailer with a big Pontiac on it, probably around 5500#. No special hitch or brakes, just needed to get it home, ~ 200 miles. I think I have seen enough here to look for a dry weight of 6000#.
That big '66 Grand Prix had a shipping weight just over 4,000 Lbs, and that steel deck car trailer is no slouch either, probably weighs right at 2,000 Lbs by itself. I'd say if you hauled that load safely without trailer brakes and weight distribution, your truck is more than up to the task of handling a 6K dry trailer.
Enjoy shopping for your trailer, figure in an Equalizer brand hitch, add a good brake controller, and off to the races you go. Your truck should have the pigtail plug under the dash to hookup the aftermarket controller without running wires to the back, research it with the dealer.
