Need new LP hose and regulator

I actually looking to do two repairs/modifications at the same time on my 16 feet Sportsmen. The former owner upgraded the single 20LB LP tank to a dual-20LB and all flexible rubber hoses are severely cracked and must be replaced completely. At the same time I wanted to "down-grade" back to a single 20 LB tank because we almost never use the LP (except for water heater and I'm on the way for electrical conversion) and having a dual-20LB add some unwanted tongue weight on the trailer for nothing.

Actually the regulator is a Camco dual regulator with a selection switch (to swap tank) and the regulator is mounted on the tank holder bracket. In my new setup I have no place to mount the dual regulator on the new tank holder (it's basically just a coil that hold the tank, like pop-ups campers) and moreover I didn't need the dual tank regulator anyway.

I'm wondering if I can get a "hose mounted" regulator like on my house BBQ grille? Where the regulator is just behind the connection screw on the tank... Is there any difference between a BBQ LP regulator and a RV LP regulator? I do several search on the internet and I'm not sure yet, because 99% of replacement regulator are for dual-tank.

Thank you!!

  • It does not need to be dual stage, it just needs to be able to lower the pressure from the tank to approx 11" wc for the trailer. Some regulators can do that single stage, some require dual stage. The important part to remember is that it must be able to bleed off enough pressure in case of failure to prevent rupture of any of the trailer piping or appliances.

Many BBQ regulators are single stage and capable of what you need.

Okay, in that case I'm gonna consider ton keep the actual regulator and only change all hoses.

    FYI:

The tank mount I posted a link to earlier is a dual stage, designed for horizontal positioning. No holder required since it plugs right into the tank. Only one hose needed- that's supply to trailer system.

Yes, I saw that. But isn't it a little big to install on a 20 LB LP tank? I think it's gonna stand out pretty much from the bottle when connected, it will also put some stress on the tank valve... no?

I think the horizontal regulator are designed more for horizontal LP gas tank?

Maybe I'm wrong since I didn't have the regulator in my hand right now... but... :B

"Horizontal" only applies to position of the regulator itself. That regulator is designed for direct plug in to a vertical RV bottle.

Simplest fix for you might be just to take the regulator you already have and mount it on the trailer body, plug one side, and run your tank hose from there.

No, you must use a dual stage regulator.

You could just plug one side of the existing regulator to save about $30 - $50. Pay attention to the mounting position, there are vertical mount and horizontal mount. The vent needs to be toward the ground.
  • Most barbeques are single stage regulators.
Not sure about Canada, but here in the states you need a dual stage regulator.
You could use a Marshall Products horizontal dual stage regulator. 294-00. It would be supported by the attachment to the tank.
Make sure the vent faces down.
