I drove a Ford Ranger for 12 years. Why? Because I didn't need a large truck. I was commuting and just needed to carry some work tools. Got better mpg than a full size truck. Maintenance was less too. Problem with posting topics about midsize trucks on this forum is that most on here think you need a DRW to tow anything and having a midsize truck is worthless. When an F150 is considered a grocery getter I can't imagine what a midsize truck is considered good for.
Midsize trucks fill a pretty good size nitch in the truck market. Not everyone needs to tow a TT. My sons a good example. He only tows a 17' ski boat. It would be a perfect truck for him.
While they can be pricey it's not apples to apples. A fully loaded Canyon will be considerably less than a fully loaded GMC 1500.
