To me and for those in the know about trucks, gas or diesel Colorado, a truck of this size and costing prit near what a full size 1/2 ton, I'd go w/ the 1/2 tone. Pricing of the Colorado is insane. I fully understand too that a full size truck is too much for some and the mid size is just right. However, I cannot justify spending 30-40K on a mid size and for 5-10grand more, you have a full size w/ a lot more capability.
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on perspective, a large segment of the market doesn't put a high priority on "capability".
The best selling 1/2 ton models have MSRP's around $45k-$50k. Reasonably equipped, 3/4 - 1 ton, 4x4, Big 3 diesels have MSRP's around $50k.
There appears to be a large portion of the truck market that puts a much higher priority on leather seats, extra knobs, two-tone paint, chrome trim, and flashing dash lights . . . than they do on payload/tow capacity.
