I see farmers towing easily 2x their rated weight in round hay bales with 3500/350 trucks all the time. It is not uncommon to see guys towing 30,000~35,000# with a 3500/350 truck during hay season.
I'm not condoning, or condemning it, just throwing it out there because it happens.
I have a neighbor that tows his John Deere backhoe (16,000#) on a 30' tandem dual gooseneck trailer (8,500#) 24,500# total behind his F-350. Not necessarily overloaded, but I have never seen him chain it down. Just gravity holds it on. :(
To my knowledge, the only 1-ton rated for 30,000 is not yet in production, and there is none of these farmers stepping up to a 5500/550 truck.
