New Chevy 2500HD

After mulling it over, I took the plunge and traded in the 2013 Sierra 1500 for a Chevy 2500HD gasser (and you diesel boys can save it, it's also my daily driver and the 8K price difference will buy a lot of gas:)). Towing mirrors, integrated brake controller (kept the tekonsha just in case), 2800 lb payload, all the modern features. Anybody need a pair of snap on towing mirrors for the 2009-2013 chevy/gmc trucks?

I cannot believe what they gave on trade for the old truck. I figured why beat up the lightweight and destroy its trade in value when I can cash in the equity and use it as a large downstroke on a truck that will handle whatever I might throw at it.

Not sure how they make money on the trade, but that gets filed under "not my problem." Anyway, picking the beast up tonight and look forward to many years of use. At my age it is probably the last truck I will be buying. Rig photo to follow.
  • It is amazing how well that GM 6.0, 6 speed, 4.10 handles the load. Enjoy your new truck.

Diesel isn't for everyone. My 2004 Chevy 2500HD with 6.0L served me well for 10 years. I towed boats and my TT all over the midwest and it did just fine. The kicker for me was I started making trips with the TT to eastern TN. The '04 made it up the hills but it took everything the engine had to make it happen. At that point I decided to go diesel because we're planning more mountain trips.

  • Congrats OP! I really like my 6.0L gasser. The fuel mileage stinks, but every time I hook up the TT, I smile and just tow.

Went to Yellowstone a few weeks back, truck loaded with passengers and gear, pulling around 8,000 pounds, and with temps around 100*, the trans temp never got above 170* and the engine temp never moved. It was great!

kw/00, it's a 2016. Taking those end of model year discounts.

BTW - at what point did you throw the Bilsteins on yours.

Wife is little miffed because she knows I am going to start looking to upgrade the trailer. But, I swear I'm not. :W LOL

Your secret is safe with us on the upgrade to trailer! Just make sure she doesn't read these forums!!!!

  • You will like the 2500HD 6.0, what year did you get?
  • Don't worry, they are not losing money on your trade. Used pickup trucks are in high demand right now, especially late model ones with relatively low mileage.

When I bought my 1500 last year you could get a brand new truck with 10 miles on it for less than a 2-year-old truck with 25,000 miles on it. In January! A no-brainer if you ask me. Yet, there are apparently people who will pay those outrageous, near-new prices for a used truck because they think they are saving money! Dealers love to see these people walk up because they won't even price out a new truck to see how much the dealer will knock off list price.

Keep an eye on the ads for that dealer and see how much he's asking for your old truck.
